Search "best SEO agency in Philadelphia" and you mostly get directory pages that rank agencies by who paid for the top slot. That tells you who bought placement, not who will grow your business. Philadelphia has real agencies with real track records, and they are not all the same. Some are built for Fortune 500 brands. Some are built for ecommerce. A few are built for the small local business trying to get the phone to ring.
So we built the list we wish existed when a prospect asks us "who else should we talk to?" We run REK Marketing & Design, and we are on this list, so read our entry with that in mind and cross-check us against the others.
The standard for this list is simple: the agency has to actively serve the Philadelphia market, have at least three years behind it, show real client work, and describe what it does without smoke. Every agency below clears that bar. We sorted them alphabetically instead of ranking them one to five, because the honest answer to "who is best" is "best for what?"

How We Built This List
This is original editorial research by REK Marketing & Design. We started with agencies that show up for Philadelphia SEO and digital marketing across Clutch, Expertise.com, DesignRush, The Manifest, and Google Business Profile results, then checked each one against the same criteria whether or not we had any relationship with them.
Inclusion Criteria
To make the list, an agency had to meet all five:
- Active in the Philadelphia market. A real presence serving Philadelphia-area businesses, whether headquartered in the city or serving it directly. We left off pure directory listings with no working agency behind them.
- At least 3 years of continuous operation. Confirmed through public records or domain history.
- Verifiable client work. Case studies, named clients, public awards, or a portfolio you can actually check.
- Active website with current contact information.
- No active regulatory action or pattern of unresolved complaints.
How We Evaluated
For each agency we looked at five things:
- Who they serve. The type and size of client they are built for, from local service business to national brand.
- Specialization. Whether SEO is a core practice or one service inside a larger agency.
- Transparency. How much of their process, team, and pricing is visible before you book a call.
- Track record and longevity. Real client work and how long they have been doing it.
- Modern capability. Whether they do the 2026 work that matters now, including AI search visibility, technical SEO, and Google Business Profile.
Editor's note: full disclosure
REK Marketing & Design publishes this article and is included below. No agency paid to be on this list, and no agency paid us. We applied the same criteria to ourselves as to every other agency, and we flag any business relationship inline. If you spot an error, want your Philadelphia agency reviewed for inclusion, or disagree with our read, email [email protected].
The List
Agencies are listed alphabetically. The "Best for" line at the top of each entry points you to the type of business each one suits.
Brownstein Group
- Best for:
- Established brands that need brand strategy, advertising, and public relations from a full-service agency of record, with SEO as one part of a bigger campaign.
- Location:
- Philadelphia, PA
- Year founded:
- 1964 (60+ years, one of Philadelphia's longest-running agencies)
- Services:
- Brand strategy, advertising, public relations, social media, digital, design
What they do well
- One of the most established independent agencies in the city, founded in 1964
- Deep brand strategy, advertising, and PR under one roof
- Recognized work, including Ad Age Small Agency of the Year in 2018 and an Advertising Week Madison Avenue Walk of Fame induction in 2020
- A strong fit when the job is building a brand, not just chasing rankings
Where they're less of a fit
- Built as a branding and advertising agency, so a small local business that mainly needs Map Pack rankings and lead-generation SEO may be paying for capabilities it will not use
- Agency-of-record engagements usually sit above a small-business monthly budget
- Pricing:
- Not publicly disclosed; contact for a quote
- Website:
- brownsteingroup.com
REK relationship disclosure: No existing business relationship.
Cool Nerds Marketing
- Best for:
- Consumer and CPG brands in food, beverage, and retail that want integrated advertising, paid social, and creative across a lot of channels.
- Location:
- Philadelphia, PA (with a Wilmington, DE office)
- Year founded:
- Opened its Philadelphia office in 2016
- Services:
- Digital marketing, branding, social media, graphic design, web design, media planning and buying, plus paid social, programmatic, CTV, and retail media for CPG brands
What they do well
- Clear specialization in CPG and consumer brands
- Broad channel mix under one roof, from creative to paid social to connected TV
- Local Philadelphia presence with roots in the region
- Integrated approach for brands that need consistent messaging across many touchpoints
Where they're less of a fit
- Their focus has moved toward CPG and consumer brands, so a local service business built on Map Pack rankings and calls is a different job
- Broad advertising services can be more than a single-location small business needs when the goal is local search leads
- Pricing:
- Not publicly disclosed; contact for a quote
- Website:
- coolnerdsmarketing.com
REK relationship disclosure: No existing business relationship.
DMi Partners
- Best for:
- Direct-to-consumer, ecommerce, and consumer brands that want affiliate and performance marketing at scale, with SEO as part of a wider growth program.
- Location:
- Philadelphia, PA (plus offices in California, Georgia, and Florida)
- Year founded:
- 2003 (20+ years)
- Services:
- Affiliate marketing, paid media, email marketing, influencer marketing, performance PR, SEO, and website development
What they do well
- Recognized strength in affiliate and performance marketing for consumer brands
- Roughly 85 team members and more than 100 clients across several offices
- Proprietary reporting platform (Lumina) for tracking performance
- Repeated Best Places to Work recognition from Ad Age and the Philadelphia Inquirer
Where they're less of a fit
- Built for consumer and ecommerce brands, so a local service company that needs Google Business Profile and Map Pack work is outside their core focus
- Performance-marketing engagements are generally sized for brands with larger budgets than a local starter plan
- Pricing:
- Not publicly disclosed; contact for a quote
- Website:
- dmipartners.com
REK relationship disclosure: No existing business relationship.
REK Marketing & Design
- Best for:
- Small Philadelphia businesses that want local SEO, a custom-coded website, and more calls and form fills, on a month-to-month plan with no long contract.
- Location:
- 2047 Locust St, Philadelphia, PA 19103, plus remote support. Founded in Orlando in 2003, now serving Philadelphia.
- Year founded:
- 2003 (22+ years in business)
- Services:
- Local SEO, AI search optimization, custom web design, Google Business Profile management, paid search, and local service ads
What they do well
- Built for small businesses, not enterprise brands. That is the whole focus, and it is where most of the other agencies on this list are not aimed
- 22 years of small-business work, including businesses we took from brand new to ranking in the Map Pack and winning in their category
- Custom-coded websites instead of WordPress templates, which load faster and score better on Core Web Vitals, and the site is included with the plan
- Documented organic growth for small-business clients, for example a surgery center up 114% and a therapy practice up 257% year over year
- A 5.0 rating on our Philadelphia Google Business Profile, part of 180+ five-star reviews across the company
- Month-to-month plans from $795, no long-term contract
Where they're less of a fit
- Plans start at $795/month, so a business looking for the cheapest possible option or a pure DIY route may not be the right fit
- Built for local service businesses, so large brands, funded startups, and big ecommerce operations are usually a better fit with an enterprise shop like SEER Interactive or DMi Partners
- Pricing:
- Plans start at $795/month with a custom website included. See full pricing
- Website:
- rekmarketing.com. For the Philadelphia market, see our Philadelphia SEO company page.
REK relationship disclosure: This is us. We are on this list because we meet our own criteria, and we encourage you to cross-reference with Clutch, G2, DesignRush, or a direct conversation with our clients.
SEER Interactive
- Best for:
- Mid-market and enterprise brands, including funded startups and Fortune 500 companies, that want data-heavy SEO, paid media, and analytics.
- Location:
- Philadelphia, PA (headquarters), plus San Diego, CA
- Year founded:
- 2002 by Wil Reynolds (20+ years)
- Services:
- SEO, paid media, analytics, data strategy, generative engine optimization (GEO), conversion rate optimization, and AI marketing consulting
What they do well
- One of the best-known SEO agencies in the country, and it started in Philadelphia
- A team of more than 250, serving clients from startups to Fortune 50 companies
- Heavy investment in data, analytics, and AI search work, including GEO
- Certified B Corporation with strong industry recognition
Where they're less of a fit
- Built for larger, data-rich clients, so a small local service business can be below the engagement size they are set up for
- Enterprise-grade programs come with enterprise budgets, which is a different world from a local starter plan
- Pricing:
- Not publicly disclosed; contact for a quote
- Website:
- seerinteractive.com

Why Some Names Aren't Here
Editor's note
Plenty of names show up for "Philadelphia SEO" that we left off, and it is not a knock on them. We skipped pure directory and lead-broker listings with no real agency behind them, and national shops that appear in Philadelphia results through a location landing page rather than actual local client work. Those can be fine companies. They just do not fit a list built around agencies that genuinely serve this market.
Frequently Asked Questions
We applied the inclusion criteria in the methodology section. Every agency had to actively serve the Philadelphia market, have at least three years of operating history, show verifiable client work, keep an active website, and have no active regulatory action. Agencies that did not meet every criterion were left off, and we note why in the exclusions section.
We disclose it in the editor's note at the top. We applied the same criteria to ourselves as to every other agency, and we flag any business relationship inline. If you want an outside view, cross-reference this list with Clutch, G2, or DesignRush.
SEO is the broad practice of ranking your site in organic search for any query. Local SEO focuses on Google Maps, your Google Business Profile, and "near me" searches. Most Philadelphia service businesses need both. Every agency on this list does SEO, though some lean toward national brands and ecommerce rather than local lead generation.
No. We list them alphabetically by name. Different agencies fit different businesses, so a single "best to worst" ranking would be misleading. The "Best for" line at the top of each entry tells you which type of business each agency suits.
It depends on your goal. If you run a local service business and want Map Pack rankings, calls, and a website that converts, a small-business specialist like REK is a closer fit. If you are a large brand, a funded startup, or an ecommerce company, SEER Interactive or DMi Partners bring deeper enterprise and performance-marketing resources.
